Artist of the year

It's the last day of the year, so let's take the time to look back at the best of 2014. Remember this list is created by MYWLT, not you. If you agree or disagree, you're more than welcome to add your comments below :) As a new thing only "Artist of the year" has been chosen. If you are familiar with the MYWLT tradition, usually there is also a remix- and mashup of the year category. However, there have been way too many good ones of both and it would be unfair to pick one, because there would be no good argument.

Let's start out...

Artist of the year

For once it has been easy to pick one artist, because this person has been miles ahead of everyone else this year.

"drum roll"

It's Tom Misch...end of story! His music is like a drug, but in a good way. You hit play and you are an addict. If you want to chill and calm down you listen to the Mischtapes!

First his "Beat Tape 1" album released in March and following that came the treasure trophy as part of Soulection's 8th instalment of their "White Label" series.

Throughout the entire year Tom Misch has released a tune. The highlights are too many to mention, but below are some of them:

and the most recent release being the "Out To See" EP with Carmody:

Tom Misch is awesome and the artist of the year 2014 @MYWLT

2014 was also the year were MYWLT entered the Hype Machine (actually it was 2013, but it was end December). In about 1 year, almost 700 tracks have been featured on the site. Thanks for all the submissions and the kind words many of you have been sending!

Happy New Year to all of you! See you in 2015 :-)

Thinking About You

U.S. based producer Big Z has given Calvin Harris' track "Thinking About You" are re-spin and created the most happy and awesome sounding version yet of this track. The pitch on the vocal is spot on, the melody is catchy and it fits really well with Calvin Harris' older and more playful tunes from a few years back. Big up to Big Z for this one! Don't forget to pick up a free download right here below! Enjoy :)

Habits

Starting out today with a remix of "Habits" by Tove Lo by FIXYN. Yes, you read it right! Although "Habits" is not super duper new, it's still a great track and this is FIXYN's first official remix release which makes it double exciting. This remix has a refined and subtle/deep tropical touch which fits well with Tove Lo's vocal. It's a great combo and it's out now via Itunes! Early Christmas present, anyone?

Up next is a track by Borgeous and Shaun Frank called "This Could Be Love" feat. Delaney Jane. This could be love? Yea....actually it could! The deep bass chords in the chorus part are really nice and pleasant sounding and go well with the higher pitch vocal snippets. This track is the first time the two producers come together in a collab, but if this is the benchmark for their work, let's hope for some more! Invisible at 5AM

Kaskade has not completely abandoned ship on Soundcloud, even though his patience got tested severely when many of his tracks were blocked thanks to the tiresome copyright robot haunting the music site. A lot of his best mashups are still available for your listening and downloading pleasure. The track below is a personal favourite of mine called "Invisible at 5AM" combining Skylar Grey's vocals with Thomas Sagstad's track "Five AM". Relive 2012 in style, just hit play!

Rooftops

Today's first track is called "Rooftops" by AEONS. This track should get you excited! It's a classy and intriguingly different piece of electronica with a complex, yet still somewhat catchy melody. The sounds used here are quirky and familiar at the same time. It's weirdly obsessive (in a good way). Hit play to find out what the heck I am trying to say! Aphelion

Are you ready for today's special track?

A week ago you got to enjoy Houston based producer PhuturePhil's Phunky 4 Pack  and now you get the opportunity to listen to a full length version of the track "Aphelion" which is the first track of a two sided EP going by the same name. It's hard to sit still while listening to the +7 minute track. The sweet beat and the atmospheric trance chords drag the listener into an almost hypnotic state. While the intro seems long, it's worth the wait, as the main melody starts to blend in nice and slowly. This is a track for electronic music connoisseurs. Chasing Time

Quite a few remixes of Azealia Banks' "Chasing Time" are floating around the web these days, but this particular version by Aussie producer Illstrtd is one that stands out. Other Deep

Today's one and only track is called "Other Deep" by Re/ly and no... just because the word "deep" appears in the title, it is not a "deep house" track. "Other Deep" is a chill and heavily jazz inspired track, but still carries interesting and different electronic music elements than you are probably used to. RIP

Today's one and only is called "R.I.P" (Moon Boots Bootleg). This is an unofficial remix by...yes you guessed it...Moon Boots. The vocals are from the track "Rest In Piece" by Fatima (you can listen to the original in the Youtube Box below). The original track is very simple and emotional and as you'll notice this bootleg is a bit more subtle than what you would usually find on a Moon Boots release, but it's a nice fit. Long Way Home

Your two best friends are back with a brand new release called "Long Way Home" feat. Breach The Summit. This is a really catchy big room melodic house track, combined with great sing-a-long lyrics. Fans of the U.S. production duo Two Friends should be familiar with the uplifting and positive sound from previous tracks such as "Brighter". This new track also compliments the last recording "Our Names In Lights", which has a more melancholic vibe. Mogass

When Galantis released the vocal stems for "Runaway (U & I)" it did not take long until MYWLT received plenty of remixes. A few of them got posted, but a some point it had to stop...It got out of hand. Last week Canadian producer Dimes sent his remix over and I had to give in...The same happened when a lot of producers send their versions of Disclosure's "Latch"...then Ken Loi's remix came along...long story short...Sorry! Here is another, yet really awesome remix of "Runaway" (U & I) in the Dimes remix. The melody is spot on and it fits the track very well. It's subtle, catchy and easy to listen to! Zenith

Today's first track is called "When We Were Young" by Dillon Francis, Sultan + Ned Shepard feat. The Chain Gang of 1974. You have probably already heard this radio friendly addition to Dillon Francis' debut album "Money Sucks, Friends Rule". This is however Steve James' remix of that track and it's awesome. It's hard to beat a track that is close to perfect (some people even find it boring because of that), but Steve James has still managed to put his own fingerprint on "When We Were Young" and it's a proper melodic progressive house track. It's available for your listening pleasure right here below (no mention on a possible release date as of now):
