America

Brother-Sister duo XYLØ have released their debut EP America featuring 6 tracks in total, some of which you probably know already from various remixes featured here on the blog. I never featured any original versions of XYLØ's songs, so here's my chance to make up for that. Instead of posting one of their established hits, here's a track that just came out with the release of the EP. This song is called "BLK CLD" and is a chill pop/electronica/indie song to die for. It has the same mysterious haunting vibe as "America" and "Between The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea" and I think it's exactly that which makes XYLØ so special. Give it a listen and check out the link below if you want to pick up a copy of their debut EP.

It's A Memory

Today's first track is a remix by the one and only Ferdinand Weber for Fred Falke's "It's A Memory". There's nothing like a well executed house remix. I'm a big fan of the original mix, but Ferdinand Weber has added a super dope synth melody given the track a more upbeat vibe, making it sound much clubbier. Check out the link below for stream/purchase options. Enjoy :)

Sticking with the German producers today, here's a remix by Jetique for Otto Knows' "Dying For You". Compared to the original this is much deeper. This is thanks to the thick and heavy bass lead which dominates the track. It works really well this way though and it's still delightfully melodic as well. Personally I prefer this remix over the original, but what do you think? :) Hit play below and check it out!

Heartbeat

Autograf have dropped another single from their upcoming EP Future Soup. This track is called Heartbeat and it's a pretty chill track, with a cool atmospheric vibe and a great beat. It's however also a track that's somewhat different from other Autograf tracks. It's a cool track to explore and a great addition to the Future Soup EP. Check it out below and stay tuned for March 11, where the entire EP drops!

Taking of pre-orders, here's another one. London based Draper has a track ready called "Home" feat. Abu Ocia and it's an interesting combo on chillout electronica, lounge and R&B. I really like the melody and the different sound that Draper has created on this one. If you like it too, you can pre-order it via the link below:

Heavier Than Life

To head off into the weekend let's start with something a bit different. Copenhagen based I Am Noxious has released "The Heavier Than Life EP" and from that you'll get to check out the first track called "Heavier Than Life". This track is a great showcase for the entire EP, as it has a cool oldschool vibe. Listening to this is like going on an 80's / early 90's nostalgia trip, thanks to the songwriting and the characteristic 80's sounding instrumental. In this track I hear everything from Laid Back to Human League, which is really cool. The EP features 5 tracks in total and you can check it out via the link below:

Stream the entire EP via SOUNDCLOUD

Up next is a very chill remix by Kiso for Benjamin Francis Leftwich's track "Tilikum". Kiso's ability to create chillout and melodic deep house tracks just keeps amazing me and with this one he continues to push. Also if you're unfamiliar with the original version of this track, you should definitely check that out too. Both versions are really excellent and very calming in their own way. So get your weekend chillout on and grab a free download via the link below:

Damn Daniel

NYC based producer INSTRUM returns with a brand new original called "Night Rolls" feat Somni. The track starts out with a sweet synth style pluck melody on the verses,  giving the track a light tropical style vibe. This vibe becomes even more dominant as the drop hits, combined with some cool and catchy lyrics. The guitar parts in this track are also really sweet and add to the listening experience. "Night Rolls" will be out on Monday, February 29th (yep...it's a leap year so that's why). Until then feel free to stream the track below:

Up next is a fun track by French producer Invoker called "Damn Daniel!". I haven't really understood why this meme became viral...maybe I missed something and you know better. Either way, Invoker's intentions to have a bit of fun has actually resulted in a pretty dope and deep sounding bass track. I don't know what style this is exactly, but it's pretty damn awesome! Not A Man Of Violence

Do you believe in Ghosts? You better do, cause this remix is fire!!! This is Ghosts remix for NIHILS' track "Not A Man Of Violence" and it's a dope piano house track, with some nice energy and a catchy melody. Up next is a remix by Bergs for OMI's "Hitchhiker". I have to admit that I've never really been a fan of OMI's music. However, listening to Bergs' ultra chillout guitar melody changes this for me completely. Listen to this and let your mind hitchhike to somewhere nice :)

Today's first track is called "Down On Me" by Washington D.C. based producer duo Crunt. Up next is a new remix by Win & Woo for Bryce Fox's "Burn Fast". It's a house'y/tropical inspired version with some cool high pitched vocal snippet melody on the drop. Time

Vancouver based producer Conro has made a remix for Justin Bieber's "As Long As You Love Me", turning it into a trap-mazing version, with lots of omph and a heavily pitched Justin Bieber vocal. Up next is a track called "Time" by Texas based producer Finding Hope feat. Ericca Longbrake. The style reminds my slightly of Porter Robinson, but it's also something entirely on its own. The soothing vocal by Ericca is the icing on the cake and everything else you should just let your ears be the judge of. It's a really great track! Forever

Two Friends are back with a brand new original called "Forever" feat. ktpearl which is out now via Armada. Fans of Two Friends will notice their characteristic piano sound on this track, as well as their amazing sense of creating an energetic vibe. The vocal by ktpearl is also really nice and is both refined and powerful. According to Two Friends this track has been a long time coming, but it is also just the start, meaning more original music will come throughout the year.

Also make sure to check out their lyric video:

Bottle Of Jack

Today's first track is called "Bottle Of Jack" by Mikey Wax, here in the Achtabahn Remix. Originally a purebred pop song, now thanks to Munich based duo Achtabahn a delicious, catchy, upbeat melodic deep house track. I like how Achtabahn made this remix very easy going, making it perfect for easy listening, but upbeat enough to make it work in clubs as well. This remix is part of the official remix EP, which also features an acoustic version and a few more remixes.

Up next is a remix by Hansolo for Years & Years' "Desire". The German producer has created a remix that's refreshingly different. He calls it feel good house and it definitely makes me feel good. Wasted On You

Louis Futon, who I one of my favourite producers, return with a brand new original called "Wasted On You" featuring Rozes. While Louis Futon has always surprised me with his creative beat making skills, this one actually has a pretty simple sounding beat. However, on this track with Rozes it makes sense and it's pleasantly straightforward. The listeners stays more focused on the fine vocal and the catchy melody and that's perfectly on point.

London based NVOY have made a remix for Honne's "No Place Like Home" and turned it into an upbeat club friendly tune with a kick ass beat, synth and bass line. One Mic

Kiel and Copenhagen based duo feinARTIG have dropped an edit for Nas' "One Mic". With a lush pad line and a cracking house beat, this Nas classic gets a classy deep house overhaul, making it sound different and fresh again. feinARTIG are mostly known for their excellent DJ mixes, but when they occasionally drop a remix or edit, it's worth waiting for. Feel free to stream the track below, or if you want a free download make sure to like the duo on Facebook and drop them a PM.

Up next is a remix by TRAILS for Flume's "Insane". This is one of the most exciting remixes I've heard of a Flume track. TRAILS' version has a delightful atmoshperhic indie electronica/step vibe and it's also a little less upbeat than the original. Don't be fooled though, there's a heavy bass sound in there as well which provides this remix with plenty of energy as well. Make sure to grab a free download of this remix via the link below. Sugar Daddy

Danish producer and DJ duo DIRTY CA$H are back with a new single they call "Sugar Daddy". It's an energetic house track, with a deep and hypnotic vibe and a cool oldschool sounding jazz vocal. This combo is both intriguing and original and is sure to kick start any party. There's no release date for "Sugar Daddy" yet, but feel free to stream it all you want right here below:

The duo also recently released a new mix which is definitely worth a listen. The mix starts out with a smooth jazz intro and gradually becomes clubbier throughout the 50 minute duration. Give it a listen below:

Up next is a track by Seattle based DJ Veaux called "Don't Go Falling In Love" feat Vin Harris. This is one of his more trance inspired tracks, but it still has an energetic progressive house vibe as well. In my humble opinion this is the best track released by DJ Veaux so far and also Vin Harris' vocal is perfectly on point here. You can even grab a free download of this track via the link below. Black Ivory

Elephante returns with a brand new single called "Black Ivory", which is a trap inspired instrumental banger. This track represents quite a different sound than that Elephante has had success with so far. It's a bold move, but it's very refreshing to hear something unexpected, especially when it sounds absolutely amazing. I love the cool details Elephante has added, like an elephants call at the first drop. Tim (which is Elephante's real name) is currently touring across the U.S. Check his social media for dates. "Black Ivory" is available as a free download:

Up next is a remix by Mogul for Gwen Stefani feat. Pharrell's "Yummy". This remix is genius. Everything from the bass intro and the old school synth on the drop. It's so on point, Mogul deserves the "On Point" prize, if there were such a thing. This remix is gold! I'm just going to leave it here and let it speak for itself. Heartbit

ICYMI it was Valentines Day yesterday...d'uh...and Pegboard Nerds released a track they called "Heartbit" feat. Tia Simone. This might be the most progressive track I've ever featured here on MYWLT and it's absolutely insane. The drop is bonkers, the energy is nuts and if you have elderly people living next door, this will probably increase their risk of getting a small stroke. For everyone else this is probably the best track to start an otherwise boring monday or take with you on a run. "Heartbit" is available as a free download via the link below:

If that didn't blow your socks off, I don't know what will...maybe it was a little too hefty for you? In that case here's something very different. Mat Zo is about to drop his second album and it will drop on March 25th. The first single from that album has however already seen the light of day and it's called "Soul Food". The track has an awesome catchy vocoder-ish synth line and a sweet funky fresh vibe. I've already been so fortunate to listen to the entire album and it's probably the of the most diverse electronic music album I've ever encountered. There's definitely something to look forward to. While you wait, you can pick up "Soul Food" as a free download:

Finally, I want to end with a remix by Canadian producer Ben Zamora for Tiësto & Don Diablo's "Chemicals" feat. Thomas Troelsen. While the original has some nice piano house elements, I like this version which has some awesome extra punch on the drop and some more beat in the verses, making it sound more raw and more appropriate for a track titled "Chemicals" (IMO at least). Rinse & Repeat

For this great Sunday your first track is called "Rinse & Repeat" by Riton and this particular version is a remix by Busy P & Boston Bun. Up next is a track that's been promoted through Annie Mac and here famous FMM series. The track is called "My Mind" by Klaves and it's probably the grooviest track you have heard all week. It's a melodic house track with lots of awesome vibes and some sick harp action setting the atmosphere for the entire track, together with the cool vocal effects. I love this track and it's even available as a free download. Instagrab a copy below:

Next is this super fresh piece called "It's Not You, It's Me" by LZRS TXN. This track comes from the album called "Side B" which features a total of 7 tracks and they are all amazing and super creative. You can stream the entire "Side B" via the link below. The last track I want to share today is from Brandyn Burnette called "Made Of Dreams" and this is a remix collab between Kiso and Win & Woo. The track has an almost housey/country style vibe, but not like you know it from Avicii. Thanks to the heavy use of guitar the track gets a summer-ish vibe, which is really excellent for a track like this. On top of that, this remix is available as a free download. Enjoy :)

Don't Let Me Down

The Chainsmokers recently released their new single called "Don't Let Me Down" feat Daya and while it has already charted on Hype Machine and has gotten lots of playtime on radio. I still want to throw this one a mention, because it's such a different track for the duo. This is the first time Alex and Drew have made a track inspired track and used guitar sounds as the dominant instrument during the verses. The Chainsmokers were recently performing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and they also talked about how they wrote "Don't Let Me Down". Check it out below:

Up next is a track by NURII called "Simba". I'm not sure if Simba from The Lion King was into bass music, but either way this track is just as loud as a lions roar. If you're looking for a track that has a deeper flavour then this next track is for you. Fred Falke's track "It's A Memory" has been remixed by Amtrac. Finally, I want to round up today's post with a fresh release from Norwegian producer Jerry Folk. The track called "You Know" is a collab with Danish producer ELOQ, who is known for producing mostly trap inspired tracks. "You Know" is therefore a brilliant combination of what both these producers represent genre-wise. The result turns out as a mild trap track with the characteristic Jerry Folk vibe, making the track great for easy listening. "You Know" is available as a free download via the link below:

Burn Wild

Yesterday I shared Kap Slap's remix of "Burn Wild" by Rozes and today you can enjoy another remix of this brilliant track, this time by Canadian duo Young Bombs. This remix was yet another track that was released during my vacation and I really wanted to share it with all of you, because it's so so awesome. Up next is a track by Alex Newell called "This Ain't Over" in the TKDJS Remix. The NYC based trio has added a very cool bass line to this track, making the track sound really intense. The drop reminds me slightly of something Amtrac could have done, but either way it's a remix with lots of awesome energy and a cool vibe. There's no release date available for this remix, but you can stream it all you want right here:

Finally, I want to share a track with you that...if you haven't been living under a rock I am actually pretty sure you've heard. This too got released while I was away and it's the latest masterpiece by Louis The Child. The track is called "From Here" and it's just as brilliant as everything else Louis The Child has released over the past few years. Their music is revolutionary and modern classics. There's something very special about their style that I can't put my finger on...but whatever it is...it works! This track is part of an OWSLA compilation called "Worldwide Broadcasting". EGO

Today's first tune is from Willy William called "EGO", but this is the Francis Mercier Remix. What does that mean? It means it's more clubby, it has a cracking bass line and it's absolutely genius. The core of the original vibe has still be maintained, so even if you're a fan of the standard version, you'd be surprised how awesome this version is too. There's no release date available for this remix, but you can stream it all you want right here below:

Up next is a track that's been featured here before. It's "Home" by Neil Thomas, however this is the Jonas Vincent Remix. Finally, here is a track by Canadian duo Loud Luxury. They've taken the classic track by Nina Simone "Sinnerman" and turned it into a track they call "Old Man". Wildfire

While I have been away, Autograf have been busy releasing a new remix, but also their first single from their upcoming EP Future Soup. While it's been out for nearly two weeks now, their remix for Seafret's "Wildfire" is one of the best I've heard from Autograf. While there's no release date available for this remix, feel free to stream it all you want below:

Now to their first single from the EP Future Soup. The track features Patrick Baker on vocal and it's a deep, yet melodic track with a great upbeat vibe. The track gets its temperament from a badass course sounding bass lead, which also provides a great balance to the lighter sounding vocal. The complete EP will feature 5 tracks in total and will be out on March 11. However, you can already pick up the track "Future Soup" and pre-order the EP now via the link below

Point Blank Music School: Week 8

Week 8: Finish Project

  • Apply finishing touches to project
  • Exporting your track , options, dither
  • What is mastering? Pro mastering vs. ‘maxing’
  • Mastering basics: master bus additions
  • Ableton Course Final Test
  • Soundcloud and your online profile
  • Assignment 8: finish final track
It's the final week of Point Blank's Ableton Live Course and things are getting serious. The last assignment that needs to be submitted by me is a full and complete track, combining everything I've learned during the course. Because I've been away on holiday I am a little behind with the self study part of the course, but I've managed to attend every masterclass and 1-2-1 session during the 8 weeks. The final week also includes a multiple choice quiz which needs to be submitted, testing whether I've acquired knowledge about music production.

When I started the course I also started producing a new track, which I wanted to share with all of you at the end. However, this track never really got finished and it got ever more complex and "out-of-sync" with what I wanted it to be. However, during the course I've always started new projects as well and one of them I've completed and it will be track that I will submit during the weekend to be reviewed by the course instructor.

While this week has been about mastering, the concept is too complex to really go into depth with in this relatively short online course. Therefore, the mastering will be demoed specifically for the track I will submit by the course instructor in a video response, which I will receive later.

Overall this course has been incredible to be part of. Not only did I have the most awesome instructor, but I also benefitted greatly from a lively forum and debate amongst other course participants. The only downside I can think of was the lack of masterclass scheduling flexibility, which sometimes made it difficult for some to attend the live session. In the first weeks there were several dates to choose from and it was possible to vote for the most convenient day to schedule the masterclass. That being said, I still prefer having an instructor who works as an active musician, who knows how the business works and how to use Ableton in a live performance setup as well.

To finalise this journey, here is the track I made. I called it "Under Palmtrees". It's not mastered yet, so you may want to turn up your speakers ever so slightly to hear it properly.

Thank you for reading about my attempt to become a better producer and good luck with your own career!

Lioness

NYC based artist Brooke Forman has released her first single called "Lioness" from her upcoming EP going by the same name. If the name Brooke Forman doesn't immediately ring a bell, you might still be familiar with her voice from songs like "Temporary Love" by Elephante and Magnificence & Alec Maire's "Heartbeat", which was also edited by Nicky Romero. Unlike the songs listed here, Brooke's first single is more towards the pop genre, but does also include elements from house music. "Lioness" is a really catchy pop song and her vocal is perfect on this song. I particularly like the verses with the repetitive niaya niaya niaya part, it's really one for fans to sing along too. This first single is out now via Itunes and you can pick up a copy via the link below:

There's also a cool music video you can check out:

Up next is a remix by Romanian producer Boehm form Novo Amor's "Anchor". It's a pleasant sounding deep/indie electronica tune, perhaps with a subtle Bon Iver flavour to it. If you're looking for a tune which you can chill out to, then this is for you...it's a free download as well, so make sure to pick up a copy via the link below:

Tell Your Friends

While I'm still enjoying the sun, I've planned that you should enjoy this awesome tune by The Weeknd called "Tell Your Friends" in the Just Kiddin Edit. Just Kiddin are giving this one away for free to celebrate their upcoming North America tour. So if you happen to be nearby, make sure not to miss out. You can find all dates in the pic above. Enjoy :)

Long Nights

Today you're in for a real treat. U.S. producer Amtrac has released a brand new EP called "Lost In Motion" containing 4 awesome tracks. One of the tracks is called "Long Nights" and what's special about that is that Amtrac is singing on this one himself. You'd be surprised how great it sounds and of course you know what you're in for with the instrumental part of the track this being a track by Amtrac.

There's another track I'd like you to check out too called "Once Is Enough". This track has a more uplifting vibe than most other Amtrac tracks and it has a piano chord arrangement that's just on point and a groove to die for.

You can stream the entire EP on Soundcloud (HERE) or pick up a copy of Lost In Motion EP on Itunes. Enjoy :)

Finally

Some of my favourite producers...Ferdinand Weber, Fabich and Jetique have joined forces to create a remake of an absolute classic: "Love Story vs Finally" by Layo and Bushwacka. All three producers having an amazing track record in making great tunes, it should come as no surprise that this track is absolute brilliant as well! "Finally" will be out on February 15th via Spinnin' Deep and until then you can stream it right here:
